Next World Stories — excerpts from annual horoscope for Sagittarius 2009

When you add up the gifts you have received, you will see that they are incomparable; now begins a long process of applying them in a practical way.

=

Pluto conjunct the Sun or transiting one’s ascendant is about discovering who you are at the most fundamental level. There is a personal rebirth involved, and often that is preceded by loss, by turmoil or the sense that you will never be the same again.

=

The effect of this transit has opened you up for something better than you’ve ever known: a combined sense of self-sufficiency and also community involvement; a new depth of being rooted in your own values while having the opportunity to experiment with a kind of community intelligence that, at this stage in the world’s history, is right on time. Finally, you are well into a moment of personal achievement that has everything to do with being of service to the world and to the people around you.

=

I suggest you tell yourself the story of the last dozen years of your life through this filter, and notice the ways that, over and over again, you rose to the occasion and came out a stronger, more authentic person.

=

You, and the world, have at times been pushed, at times walked willingly and at times been dragged across the coals of this transit. For young adults, it’s all they have ever known. If you’re 24, this transit represents half of your life.

=

If you consider the depth of growth and the scale and depth of the changes you’ve been through, I think you’ll be doubly impressed. The important thing is that you give yourself credit for what you survived, accomplished, endured and created.

=

When we look a little more closely at the movement of Pluto through your solar 2nd house (Capricorn), we will see a transit that is all about trusting yourself, and that all trust is an extension of trusting yourself.

=

Second is the part of you that has been preserved and indeed strengthened by the events of this time. Explore the relationship between what no longer exists in your life, or what exists in a profoundly changed form; in who you are at your center; and how that core reality now expresses itself.

=

You are likely to be living with part of you being exposed, that is not quite accustomed to being out in the world and which the world is not accustomed to seeing. In our culture, there’s often a crisis created for people who dare to be authentic, particularly at the moment of emergence. People act like they’ve never seen such a thing, and since authenticity is only possible with a degree of vulnerability, then it can hurt twice as much when we are not received or embraced for who we are.

=

I suggest you be mindful of these things as you embrace the next phase of your life, which enables you to take what you have learned in the past decade-plus and bring it to a new level. In one sense, the journey has just begun. But you know a lot more at the commencement of this trip than you did at the beginning of the last one: in particular, you know more about yourself.

=

For better or for worse, you can no longer deny what you know. Pluto has left you with indelible knowledge. And an important planet remains in your sign, unknown to most astrologers, called Pholus…. Maybe write this down and put it in your wallet:В What you know about yourself changes the world. (This helps explain the taboo on self-knowledge.)

=

Pholus has the key phrase: “Small cause, big effect.” That would be you. You have no doubt witnessed that you can have an impact on the world; you have yet to see how the subtle influence that you offer can have a profound effect, indeed, one that you could have barely imagined possible.

=

Pluto is now in your solar 2nd house, the house of values. The 2nd house is like one’s “second sign” because it is the bank account of what we feel is truly our own. The nature of Sagittarius is to quest, expand, explore and express. The nature of Capricorn is to preserve, to categorize, to structure and to fit into the pattern of both personal and global history. These two concepts are a crucial model of yin and yang, placed side by side for a good reason: they work together.

=

And now: hello Pluto in Capricorn. Just like Pluto in your own sign took you through one endless transformation after the next, you can now use the power of this deeply meaningful planet to work out what is important to you on the most practical levels. You have the power to identify dysfunctional beliefs and dismantle them, replacing them with what is actually meaningful to you.

=

I would emphasize here the extent to which this transit represents a confrontation with the past; with past values that you wereВ inflicted with; with the incredibleВ baggage of history that all of us drag around, though you feel this more directly and with a greater sense of burden than most other people.

=

In dismantling these beliefs, you will liberate two things: one is energy and the other is mental bandwidth for the new vision of yourself and the world that you have been brewing for years.

=

Guilt is more often a sign that you are doing the right thing than the wrong thing. People who intentionally harm others do not experience guilt in the way that helpful people do. I’ve written about the nature of guilt elsewhere, but the short version is that it’s usually a device installed by others who want to control us.

=

This, to me, is your real quest to be yourself. That is to say, such is more than a mental phenomenon; more than walking around with your most precious beliefs held like a ring in a box in your pocket. Your true quest is in the expression of your human nature, and to do this you must overcome all the internal and external obstacles that get in the way, nearly all the time.

=

Pluto is giving you the strength to do this. In short, Pluto through Capricorn is giving you the strength to not be full of shit: to not believe one thing and live another thing; to not go along with the games of boring people just so they think you belong there; to admit to yourself what is true to you and to live in your truth no matter what anyone else may think or feel.

=

This is like the old oak tree growing in the backyard of a physics laboratory. As I described in the previous section, you are cleaning this tree of the past, clearing away the dead wood. The idea is to have it not get in the way of what you are developing now.

=

This represents a full opening up of your intellectual potential and your ability to share it with others. Jupiter is your ruling planet, and in this sign it’s suggesting that your life is all about developing your intelligence in a way that is co-creative and worldly.

=

To me what Saturn is doing for you is taking all the other things I’ve been writing about and will help you turn them from potentials into reality.

=

First among many is the demand to be real, in the world — not just in your own head. You simply must make yourself known; Saturn in your 10th house is about building your reputation, doing the footwork and the legwork and the handwork and basically using all your appendages and your mind to construct the reality in which you want to live.

=

These are not idle dreams that you are dreaming, and this is not an idle time in your life. When you look back you will see: this is the moment you chose to be a person on your own course and under your own power. This is the moment when you take over your life, yes, against long odds: but this is not a game, not a gamble, but a necessary risk

Small World Stories — excerpts from annual horoscope for Sagittarius 2008

Congratulations to the world: it, too, has very nearly survived more than a decade of this journey, but we all know how mysterious the end to any story can be; as of today, it is unwritten.

=

It does not merely disappear; Pluto’s movement from your sign to the next will in many ways represent the manifestation of the Sagittarius era: in an earthy sign, where the vision takes root.

=

One of the most potent is currently in the early degrees, called Pholus. The key phrase that sums up Pholus in a fortune cookie is “small cause, big effect.”

=

At a certain point, you need to pull the cork and let it all out.

=

You have had to identify yourself with all kinds of things generally regarded as base or common that are entirely contrary to your view of yourself as having already transcended these things. In so doing, you have reclaimed vast inner territory, and have come further than ever before seeing and experiencing yourself as a whole person, rather than just an expression of your idea of what a person is.

=

You like to unleash potential, and trust that focus will come as a kind of natural consequence.

=

It’s also offering some ambition of a slightly different stripe than you’re accustomed to; generally you are content to leave the details to everyone else. At the moment, you seem to be keeping them all to yourself.

=

You need to apply Saturn to your process of self-mastery rather than that of mastering the world or others around you.

=

Your worldly aspirations need to emanate from your most deeply held personal values. For that to be effective, you need to know your values.

=

Please, never confuse theВ feeling of being from somewhere else, or theВ idea of being something other than an Earthling, with the actual facts. You are not from somewhere else; you were born here and you live here. You are not some other species, mentally or physically, even though many human ideas are extremely strange. You are one among us.

=

Not only are you human, you are distinctly connected to your animal nature — or you must make a conscious effort to do so. The part of you that needs, the part of you that craves contact, the part of you that just wants to fuck, is as much the animal as it is the human.

=

There is something about you that embodies the inherently human spirit of adventure and wandering for its own sake. Yet there is also part of you that clings to tradition as if it were the last thing that exists.

=

On the one hand, you are the harbinger of the future, or perhaps more aptly, a kind of barbarian in the midst of time, blazing through the unexplored wilderlands of consciousness. Then, in another moment, you could be relying on Emily Post’s etiquette manuals for advice about how to set the table, decorate your house or organize a proper wedding. Beneath your abundant futurism are doubts about the future, and beneath your radical independence is a need to work within established, traditional forms of existence that appear to be the dominant values system.

=

I bring this up in the discussion of relationships because relationships will either be about values, or they will be about clashes in values.

=

When people actually get along, live well together and succeed at something meaningful, that is about their values being in harmony, including a value on respecting differences.

=

Mixed in is a question of how generous you will allow yourself to be with yourself, particularly in theВ feeling of allowing yourself to be secure. That is a gift you give yourself, not (at this stage of your life) something that is given to you, or that just “comes along.” Indeed, you may decide it’s time to start smashing those old ideas about life with a sledgehammer.

=

Don’t expect people to read your mind and remember, what is so obvious to you is less obvious to everyone else — no matter how intense they feel on the inside.

=

Capricorn tends to be connected with all things frugal. Jupiter is connected with abundance and excess. This can add up to the truly strange combination of the feeling of too much and not enough.

=

You have about a year to experiment with something new, but you need to use that time consciously. The theme is about making structural level changes. Structural means not superficial.

=

Remember that all wealth comes from the Earth, so none of it is really yours. You might want to consider the Earth in your financial plan — the impact of your activities on the Earth, and where and how you spend your money such that it is directed at places that respect our small planet.

=

More to the point, you truly need to be free now, and that means free from the tendency to retreat from what you need, rather than going toward it.

=

There is a big difference between service and success. In fact, service is success, in this equation. What else follows (recognition, status, and so on) is an add-on and it can be a serious distraction from what you are doing. I think that in a world where greed is held up as a virtue, we need to question any impulse to serve as originating in something potentially less altruistic.

=

Anything that might qualify as a right answer or a solution to any issue you face will take your neighbors into account…. It just happens that you were born into a dimension of karma where you must learn to think in terms of the community, and on behalf of the community, in a time when (for our culture) this whole concept has rarely been weaker. You are an idealistic person, and you know this is a service to the world. But now is the time to merge your ideas with the concrete expression of your values, in a way that positively impacts the groups of people you are involved with — potentially, on the largest scale you can imagine, but most surely on the smallest.

=

You were born into this life with a broad brush in your hand. Now you are taking up the fine-point pen; the ordinary hammer and nails; the human hands that touch.

The Spiral Door — excerpts from annual horoscope fro Sagittarius 2007

YOUR LIFE: what have you been building toward all these years? What has been the core ideal, the main idea, or the common thread? There has been one, and it has taken many different names. But that thing that keeps getting renamed, redefined and thought through a new way, is really one thing. But to say that it’s about doing something would be a mistake; in truth it is about being someone, and being that person now. Simply put, the future has arrived, and it is time for you to be who you are.

=

Indeed, your life has everything to do with this moment in history, and the process by which humanity is getting there. You play a role, and potentially a pivotal one.

=

A Course in Miracles points out that anything and everything in this world must be used for healing, and one of the affirmative functions of evil is to provide contrast and thus the basis for choice. Well, we’re getting plenty of this at the moment.

=

Among the mysteries of evolution are the roles that advanced souls may play, and you are likely to consider yourself one. If so, then step into your part in the planetary drama and assist in the world’s dangerous moment of healing and transition.

=

We cannot see the distance we have covered with Pluto, and you may not be able to see yours. Yet it would be wise to remember the helmet of invisibility that the mythological Pluto wears. This relates to the action of Pluto (the planet), sometimes described as an unconscious, if deeply compelling, process. In many ways, the coming four seasons, perhaps a bit more, represent a summary of the vast but invisible experience that you have accumulated.

=

The many smaller and larger changes and developments that you’ve experienced are likely to coalesce into one sweeping transition that, once you notice the momentum, represents an inevitable and astonishing stage of your growth in this lifetime.

=

The inescapable calling of home, whatever home may be, is at times all that your ears can hear, and yet from moment to moment the cosmic instructions are telling you to place your roots in the here and now; in the community in which you live; and the planet where your body is located.

=

The personal implications are profound, as this time in your life is one where you are radically shaping your relationship to everything that is around you. You seem to be going as deep as you need to go, and leaving nothing out of the question.

=

Jupiter will, this year, cover all the territory that Pluto has covered in the past 14 years, as well as make conjunctions to all the new discoveries in Sagittarius. This includes the current Quaoar/Great Attractor conjunction, and later in the year, the Pluto/Galactic Core conjunction. As if these alignments were not enough, Jupiter is showing up to increase their scale to such a degree that they are impossible to miss, no matter how dense one may be. On a low-density level, though, it may not be so pleasant, though I trust that many years of practice have taught you to ride the tiger of creation.

=

As you know, you’re doing well in a time when the world is not — indeed, when the world doesn’t realize its own peril. This may be something of a grief for you, if you have a shred of sensitivity. On the other hand, this presents many opportunities for you to do your part. You have a lot; this world needs a lot; it’s a good time, in that respect. Still, you may need to stand apart from any idea that you are profiting on the world’s loss. Rather, you are benefiting from the benefit that you bring to others.

=

In some way, without shrinking who you are or compromising what you need to do, you need to exercise discretion, and be clever about how you go about your life and your mission.

=

People will tell you what you need to know about them — and then it is your responsibility to act on that information. You do not owe anyone your allegiance, only an appropriate place in your life.

=

You need to be particularly alert for two issues: those who live like they are never going to heal; and those who are abusive. Be mindful of who creates harmony and helps you align the creative energy around you; and those who scramble energy or insist on creating disharmony.

=

Make sure you continuously reckon the state of your social life with what you know about your early childhood environment, and do your best to make an internal adjustment every time you make an external one.

=

You must take the energy to make the choices that will shape your environment in a way that supports you. This includes seeking out the right healers, practitioners and consultants to work with. If you find it difficult to do this, notice your resistance, and do what you can to work through it gently, focusing mainly on mental patterns and the corresponding social patterns.

=

Quaoar is, and has been, teaching you not to take your own existence for granted, or perhaps has been calling your attention to all the ways that you have done so in the past.

=

What may be daunting are many situations in your life and indeed how you see yourself that appear to present you with an all-or-nothing choice. That choice may put you in the position of feeling that you will somehow become unpopular with half the population of your life; or that you will betray half of your own intentions in the process. Yet no matter how this may express itself externally, the solution resides in an internal reckoning of your most vital truths.

=

Insight, though, is like light projected on a screen, vivid while it’s there, clear to see, available to look at and consider — until it’s not there. You are the source of that light; though the insight may appear to be comingto you, it’s really comingВ from you. That insight may be a vision of things to come, it may be an alternative point of view of yourself, but ultimately itВ is you.

=

Rather than being a source of controversy as you may fear you are, the unity that is created as you reconcile with yourself will, perhaps a bit strangely, manifest as leadership and harmony in the world around you, and by that, I mean in the people around you and the mission that we share.

=

The key to getting the maximum energy from the chemical reaction is having enough of the right ingredients, and combining them consciously. Balance is key; the right mental attitude is key; trusting the process of your own life is the most important of all. We could say that you have little other choice but to trust, but actually, on this plane of reality — you have several other choices. Trust, at least for you, will be the most obvious of them, and may indeed be the purpose of the whole journey you are on. Perhaps test that theory and see where it leads — in truth, you cannot go wrong.
